Section View of the Museum of modern art

While going around the museums in Glasgow, it was fascinating to see all the different things there was to see, and to discover. It was interesting to find out that the lighthouse museum was hidden away in a side street that you could easily have walked pass if you had not be searching for it.

“the way things go” by

Inside the Modern art museum there were many interesting things, but my personal favourite was “the way things go”. This is a Rube Goldberg machine (domino effect machine) that used various methods to move the next object in the series through the use of chemicals to devolve rope, lots of fire works, and a great deal of fire. The entire video of “the way things go” is about 30 mins long, but snippets of it are available of it online.

Next it was onto the lighthouse there was an exhibition taking place of different graphic designs done by school children on various topics. This one especially caught my eye while looking at them. It made me stop and think about how mental health is talked about in today society, and how people think about their own mental health. It made me consider all the stats and statistics about how infrequently young people seek help, as they feel that it will “just go away if given time” and don’t want to be a bother to anyone but yet if someone was to sprain their ankle, they would try and find something straight away to reduce the swelling, or to support it while it healed. The same sadly does not happen with peoples mental health as it is an invisible disease that no one will see unless you speak up.

Exhibit 3- “Floating Heads by Sophie Cave”

Inside the Kelvingrove Museum you are almost immediately greeted by this very odd piece of work. It consists of 50 similar heads, all suspended from the ceiling, all displaying different emotions ranging from excitement, to fear. The heads take up almost the entire ceiling space from one end of the room to the other. Upon first seeing all these emotions staring back at you, you may spot one that reflects your current state of mind. When you find the one that reflects yourself it makes you think about why you are feeling the way you are, and just what has made you that way throughout your day.
